Posts rotted at the base, under a roof that had to stay up. We shored the roof, replaced the posts with solid cedar and installed an aluminum railing.

A scaled drawing for the permit, with railing height and footings.
Construction
Footings, frame, decking, stairs, railings. A standard deck goes up in one to two weeks.
Final walkthrough
We check every railing and step with you, and leave the yard clean.

Cedar or composite?
Cedar costs less up front, smells great and can be repaired board by board, but needs a treatment every two or three years. Composite costs more and needs nothing. We build both.
My covered-deck posts are rotted. Does it all need rebuilding?
Rarely. We shore the roof with temporary posts, replace the columns with solid cedar on raised bases, and keep the rest.
Do I need a permit for a deck?
In most towns in Vaudreuil-Soulanges and the West Island, yes, as soon as the deck is raised or attached to the house. We provide the drawing.
